Philip is a classical-trained tenor. He has studied with Sylvia O'Regan at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and Eamonn Mulhall at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. He specialises in english song and contemporary vocal music and regularly performs such music both as a solo performer and with ensembles across the UK and Ireland.

Philip has held a very successful career as a ensemble singer and has performed in many of the top student ensembles and choirs in the UK and Ireland. During his undergraduate studies at Trinity College Dublin he held  a Choral Scholarship with the College Chapel Choir. As a choral scholar he sang at regular services, concerts, radio and television broadcasts on the national broadcaster RTÈ and tours of the UK, Germany, Hong Kong and Macau. While undertaking his Postgraduate studies in London he sang with the Trinity Laban Chamber Choir which included concert performances at St Martin-in-the-Fields and broadcasts on BBC Radio 4 Daily Service. He was also a member of the contemporary vocal ensemble Rubythroat under the direction of soprano Linda Hirst.

As a vocalist and composer he endeavours to further the field of contemporary vocal music through the creation and performance of new works.

Philip from an early age had a keen interest in english song which, in his professional careers he continues to specialise in. The works of Purcell, Quilter and Warlock feature regularly in his recital programmes and his interest ranges from early baroque to contemporary song.

In April 2018, he recorded two songs by Peter Warlock which you can listen to below:

'Take, O take those lips away' is a poignant story of unrequited love and can be considered one of the finest setting of Shakespeare text from Measure for Measure.

Take, O take those lips away - Peter Warlock
Tenor - Philip Hodgins, Piano - Sam Jewison

'Bright is the ring of words' is a setting of the poem by Robert Louis Stevenson that represents futures unknown through the imagery of song.

Bright is the ring of words - Peter Warlock
Tenor - Philip Hodgins, Piano - Sam Jewison
