Philip is a composer who specialises in contemporary vocal and choral music. He has also worked on compositions for orchestra, small ensembles and solo instruments.  Philip first studied composition in his Undergraduate degree before studying with Stephen Montague and Deirdre Gribbin during his postgraduate studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. 

Recent works Philip composed include 42 for soprano, piano, oboe, small ensemble, small vocal ensemble and electronics, Flux for chamber orchestra and 'I, Bertha' for soprano and prepare piano. In 2017 he received a commission from the Trinity Laban String Sinfonia to compose a new work for the ensemble. The only rose of summer was premiered by the ensemble in March 2017.

Philip has also worked with the Dulcinea Quartet and the ANIMA ensemble. The tale of the broken screw was composed for the Dulcinea Quartet in 2016 as part of their residency at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and explores the use of folk music in the string quartet tradition.

In 2017 he worked with the ANIMA ensemble in collaboration with Trinity Laban and the British Film Institute on composition for short film. The music written for Through Belfast as part of the larger protect of film relating to Northern Ireland depicted the thematic nature of the imagery of the city of Belfast.
